This season, we teamed up with two buyers, Brigitte from Little Department Store in Rotterdam and Robin from Little Department Store in Munich. As an aunt and niece, they turn visiting trade shows into a mix of family-time and business by visiting events together. Our team followed along as they explored the aisles of the show, met with brands, and built their offer for next season at the summer edition of Playtime Paris. Then, we asked them to make a selection of the Little Department Stores’ Top 10 products for next season! Ranging from fabulous fashion to super-cute socks, we loved seeing what caught their attention among the hundreds of new collections on display.
First let’s dive into how they shop the show and curate their offer. Then, we’ll discover their full selection and what drew them to the products they picked. If you need a refresher, read about how each of their store’s started in our previous article here to get some background on them before exploring their top 10 products of the season below!
“This summer at Playtime Paris, we really spent quality time talking with the designers. When building the offer for our individual stores, we rely largely on intuition. There are some analyses we make of the product categories or sizes that have been selling well, but more than anything we both rely on our gut instincts.
We love being able to come to Playtime Paris and complete all of our buying in a few days, rather than having to travel for weeks to different showrooms and reps. We are creating less carbon emissions by making one trip, so it’s more sustainable. And it’s more efficient because we can see all the collections and build outfits in our head that combine different brands.”
Rockahula Kids > “We love this little jewelry box for the glitter — need I say more?! It makes for a really nice gift. I (Brigitte) had it in a different color last season and every girl, every mom, every grandmother really loved it!”
Konges Sløjd > “This game is so old school, I (Robin) absolutely love it! It’s very back to the roots, yet in a very modern, beautiful way.”
Sproet & Sprout > “I (Brigitte) don’t usually love text on tops or black for kids, but this one I love! The ‘Ciao Ciao Ciao” is innocent and harmless, it’s perfect.”
Piupiuchick > “We really love the cherry print this season from Piupiuchick! It’s definitely one of our favorite brands in general, and their team is really kind. We love their marketing materials too, they’re very friendly and make it feel like you’re part of a big family.”
En Fant > “These are the perfect basic boots! They go with every outfit because of the great colors, and they’re really durable. They’re not only my customer’s favorites, but also one of mine (Brigitte)!
The Campamento > “The print is super nice on this crewneck. I (Brigitte) really love ladybugs (even though they’re actually pretty viscous predators if you’re lice on roses!), and the people at The Campamento are really, really nice. We also love the retro vibe of the print.”
Petit Blush > “Honestly, we love everything in the collection this season! It’s so beautiful, and we think the picture with the mannequin is so fun!”
Salted Stories > “This is a really nice new Dutch swimwear brand. They make UPF50+ swimwear with lots of mom and dad items as well, so parents can twin with their kids.”
Gosoaky > “The jackets from Gosoaky are absolutely fantastic! They’re weatherproof, sustainable, and designed to be passed down. We also like their story, because it was founded by two moms in the Netherlands who wanted to make rainwear that’s more fun, fashionable, and all around better. It rains a lot in the Netherlands, and we bike a lot, so good outerwear is really important. It’s important in Munich too, where it rains and snows a lot!”
Melton > “We picked the fries and the smiley tennis ball! Melton has really good quality, and it’s so much fun for kids to wear nice, fun socks!
Thank you so much to Brigitte and Robin for sharing their experience at the show and the Little Department Stores’ Top 10 products with us! We had so much fun filming with them, and you have to check out their stores in Rotterdam and Munich. And stay tuned to see which buyers we’ll follow at the summer edition of Playtime & Kid’s Hub New York…
