Benjamin Bouchet Playtime guest artist
Interview with Benjamin Bouchet
Guest artist at the Playtime shows in Shanghai and New York for the summer 21 editions
Your career in a few words ?
I studied at the school of decorative arts in Strasbourg and after my diploma I explored a lot of jobs related to the image (comics, publishing and children's press, corporate graphic design, didactic illustration)
then I started to work in fashion from 2013 and after having realized all the prints and the artistic direction of the collection FW19 for the house Christian Lacroix, I directed my artistic choices towards the decoration / interior design to work for Laura Gonzalez.
How did you get the taste for illustration?

I've been drawing since I was a kid and I quickly knew that I was going to make it my main activity.
My first inspirations, like many children of my age, were comics, manga on TV and all kinds of animations.
What is Benjamin Bouchet's style?
My style is to have no defined style.
To be able to do what I want according to the request of my customers or the mediums I want to use.
To try to have a maximum of freedom and not to be constrained in a style or a way of working.
How does the "wild" theme of Playtime this season echo your work?

I've been working a lot on nature and plants for a long time, especially for fashion or for the creation of frescos.
It's an inexhaustible source, I often draw my inspiration from the Jardin des Serres d'Auteuil or the Arboretum de la Vallée aux Loups which are wonderful places.
What have you prepared for the Playtime shows?
A mural showing nature taking over the city, mixing vegetation and architecture.

Your next projects ?
To continue to explore the different ways of doing illustrations with Laura Gonzalez in order to visually dress restaurants, boutiques and palaces, etc...
